 Faculty of Computer Science
About us
In General - Homepage - Deutsch

The Faculty of Computer Science offers two degree courses: computer science and software technology, the latter of which is still in a trial phase. The Faculty also participates in the English-speaking Master course INFOTECH. 15 professors and 86 research assistants are involved in teaching the 1.100 students on these courses. Computer science can also be studied as a subsidiary subject to other courses. Furthermore, within the basic education, it is offered to students of subjects like business administration, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering as well as natural sciences.

The focus of the Faculty`s teaching and research activities reflects the University of Stuttgart`s emphasis on natural sciences and engineering.

The Institute of Computer Science consists of the departments Computer Architecture, Computing Software, Dialogue Systems, Formal Concepts of Computer Science, Graphical Engineering Systems, Intelligent Systems, Programming Languages, Software Engineering as well as Theoretical Computer Science.

The Institute of Parallel and Distributed High-Performance Systems consists of the departments Applications of Parallel and Distributed Systems, Applied Computer Science - Image Understanding, Distributed Systems, Integrated Systems Engineering and Large System Simulation.

The departments of both institutes are engaged in various mainly third-party funded projects. There are among others the following research topics: CAD systems, computer communications, database and information systems, embedded systems, graphical information systems, image processing, multi-media systems, programming languages and program analysis, robotics, simulation, visualisation, voice processing. These departments participate in three collaborative research centers: "Development and test of innovative products - Rapid prototyping", "Transformable corporate structures in multi-variant serial production", and "Active exploration by sensor-actuator-feedback for adaptive measurement and inspection technology", for the latter one the Faculty has assumed the role of the spokesman.

The department Zentrale Dienste der Informatik runs the computing network of the Faculty, the computer pools used for teaching, and the library.
