Frank Leymann ist Professor für Informatik und Direktor des
Instituts für Architektur von Anwendungssystemen der
Universität Stuttgart. Seine Forschungsinteressen liegen auf
den Gebieten Dienstorientierte Architekturen und Middleware,
Workflow Management und Geschäftsprozesse, Programmieren im
Großen, Integrationstechnologien, Transaktionsverarbeitung
und Architekturmuster.
Frank Leymann arbeitete zwanzig Jahre für die IBM Software
Group in der Entwicklung von Datenbanksystemen und Middleware
Produkten: Er entwickelte Werkzeuge für die Modellierung
konzeptioneller und physikalischer Datenbankschemata für DB2;
Werkzeuge für die Vorhersage und Überwachung der
Performanz eines objekt-orientierten Datenbanksystems; Architektur
und Design eines Repositories für Software-Artefakte;
Architektur und Entwicklung sowohl eines Universellen Relationen
Systems als auch eines Komplex-Objekt Systems oberhalb von DB2;
Architektur der MQSeries Familie von Produkten. Parallel zu diesen
Tätigkeiten arbeitete Frank Leymann seit Ende der achtziger
Jahre an allen Fragen der Workflow Technologie und wurde "Vater"
der Workflow Produkte der IBM.
Als IBM Distinguished Engineer und gewähltes Mitglied der
IBM Academy of Technology war er Mitglied eines kleinen Teams
welches die Architektur und Strategie des gesamten Middleware
Portfolios der IBM verantwortete. Außerdem
war er Verantwortlch für die Architekturaspekte des
On Demand Computing für die IBM Software Group.
Seit dem Jahr 2000 arbeitet Frank Leymann als Ko-Architekt der Web
Service Plattform. Er ist Ko-Autor vieler Web Spezifikationen,
einschließlich WSFL, WS-Addressing, WS-Metadata Exchange,
WS-Business Agreement, der Kollektion der WS-Resource
Framework Spezifikationen und BPEL4People; gemeinsam mit Satish Thatte ist er der
"Vater" von BPEL4WS (nun WS-BPEL).
Frank Leymann arbeitet in mehreren durch Drittmittel geförderten Projekten:
Als wissenschaftlicher Direktor des EU FP6 Projektes
SUPER
war er für die Ausrichtung des gesamten Projektes verantwortlich, welches
sich mit der Kombination von semantischen Technologien und Geschäftsprozess
Technologien befasst.
Im EU FP6 Projekt
TripCom
erarbeitet seine Gruppe Grundlagen für die
Kombination von SOA und "space-based computing".
Der Fokus der Arbeiten im DFG SFB
Nexus
liegt im Bereich der Anreicherung
von Geschäftsprozess Technologie mit Kontext-Funktionalität.
Im BMBF Projekt
Tools4BPEL
werden Erweiterungen von BPEL vorgeschlagen, um
Choreographien und deren Dienstgüte spezifizieren zu können.
Für den DFG Exzellenz-Cluster
SimTech
erarbeitet seine Gruppe
eine service-orientierte Umgebung zur Modellierung und Ausführung
von Workflows, die Multi-Skalen-Simulation unterstützt.
Anpassbare Geschäftsprozesse für den Bereich Fertigung werden
in der DFG Graduiertenschule
GSaME
untersucht.
Im EU FP7 Projekt
ALLOW
liegt der Schwerpunkt der Forschungen auf der Adaptionsfähigkeit von
Flows als Basis für die Erstellung von Anwendungen in
pervasiven Szenarien.
MDA-basierte Mechanismen zur Sicherstellung der Erfüllung von Regulatorien
in SOA- und insbesondere in Prozess-basierten Anwendungen erforscht sein Team
im EU FP7 Projekt
COMPAS
.
Die Nutzung von SOA- und Prozess-Technologie zur Prävention von
Verletzungen von Sicherheitsgarantien sind der Fokus im EU FP7 Projekt
MASTER
.
Neue Kompositionsmechanismen für SOA-basierte Anwendungen und deren Einbettung
in entsprechende Software Engineering Methoden sind Gegenstand des EU FP7 Projekts
S-Cube
.
Frank Leymann publizierte viele Artikel in Journalen und
Konferenzbänden und ist Ko-Autor dreier Bücher
(Repository, Workflows, Web Services). Er hält eine Vielzahl
von Patenten insbesondere auf den Gebieten Workflow Management und
Transaktionsverarbeitung. Für viele internationale
Konferenzen war er im Programm- oder Organisationskomitee
tätig, und er ist Herausgeber bzw. assoziierter Herausgeber
einiger Journale.
